Have you ever picked up your phone and typed in “restaurants in my area?” The result is a map with a big red blotch on it. The red blotch becomes individual pin heads as you zoom out for a wider view. Each one of these red pin heads represents an individual restaurant in the area. After you see them individually, you can make a decision where you would like to go to eat. The big red blotch tells you that places are available, and the aerial view shows the many choices you can experience. We can apply this to our life. When we look back at a time period in our life, we will see a big red blotch created by all of the things we experienced. There are many pins represented by the red blotch. In our memory, we can take an aerial view of our life and remember the precious things in which we put a pin. This weekend, I put a pin in the wedding of my oldest grandson, Seth. As I did that, my memory brought back the many pins I have placed as markers of his life.
His birth was exciting and fearful as the emergency C-Section was performed. His dad and I prayed. God brought him and his mother through this ordeal. *PIN* He came home, and I was able to give him his first bath. *PIN* Seth was given a song by me. I would hold him up high and fly him around singing, “Sethie boy, a wonderful guy! Sethie boy, I’ll tell you why! He’s my grandson! He’s the first one! He will always be, my Sethie boy!” This was sung to the Superman theme song tune. *PIN* He grew and was about three years old when I heard him singing in his room, “Better is one day in your house than thousand elsewhere!” He was singing about the Lord’s house! *PIN*
Each one of these pins represent a wonderful memory of Seth. There are many more, but the most important pins in Seth’s life have to do with the Lord. It was my pleasure to witness the baptism of Seth when he was about 10 years old. He gave a clear testimony about Jesus, his death and resurrection. *PIN* Seth read a cartoon bible at least twice and was able to talk about the lessons he was learning. *PIN* Conversations we had about the Lord. *PIN* It was a joy to hear him speak to the college class. He divided the word of God well. *PIN* What a privilege for him to share with me when he met Chloe! Then he shared about how he was going to marry her! *PIN* The day came, and I was overjoyed for him and Chloe. The whole day was beautiful! God was written all over this event! *PIN*
I have placed markers in Seth’s life, my children’s lives, my other grandchildren’s lives, my own, and many others. We are all sticking those pins in different things as we go through this life. These are great memories, but God has already placed pins in our lives. He has ordained our days for his purposes. He always sees from an aerial view. Every pin God has placed will be experienced by us. What a concept!
“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:16
We can trust God’s sovereign care of us as we go through each and every moment of this life. He has ordained it! He already had a pin stuck in the wedding day! He knew about it and brought it about. Is this something I totally understand? NO! It is the truth from God’s Word and I believe it.
Now, as I take some time and think about the pins I’ve put into the life of my grandson, I know God had it all planned. I can trust that! Seth and Chloe can trust that! All of the followers of Christ can trust that! God is good all the time! Enjoy the pins you have placed along the way in your life. As you do that, remember and be grateful to God who made it all possible. Today may be a day when you need to stick a *PIN* in it!
